New Delhi: The Government of India has supported over 1,700 startups under the TIDE 2.0 Scheme, reinforcing its lifecycle-based approach to strengthening the country’s startup ecosystem.
The initiative supports startups across stages – from ideation and proof of concept to prototype creation, product development, and testing.
TIDE 2.0 Scheme Strengthens Technology Entrepreneurship
Launched in 2019, the TIDE 2.0 Scheme – short for Technology Incubation and Development of Entrepreneurs 2.0 – promotes technology-led entrepreneurship by offering financial and technical support to incubators.
The scheme is implemented through 51 selected incubators based in Institutes of Higher Learning and premier research and development organisations across India.

The Government has approved a total outlay of ₹264.62 crore over five years under the TIDE 2.0 Scheme, with the objective of supporting around 2,000 technology startups.
These incubators provide startups with access to domain expertise, advanced infrastructure, industry connections, and ecosystem partnerships.
As of now, 1,706 startups have received support under the TIDE 2.0 Scheme and continue to show steady progress.
Their engagement with incubators evolves as they navigate competitive market conditions, including achieving product-market fit, addressing technological challenges, meeting specialised laboratory requirements, raising funds, and ensuring financial sustainability.
In several cases, incubators have enabled rapid idea validation and strategic pivots, helping startups transition to more commercially viable business models.
The overall performance of supported startups remains encouraging, with many reporting revenue growth, higher valuations, external funding, and intellectual property creation.
TIDE 2.0 Scheme Boosts IP Creation and Global Expansion
Under the TIDE 2.0 Scheme, Centres of Excellence in Intellectual Property Rights (CoE-IP) have also been established to support startups, SMEs, academia, and individual innovators in the electronics and IT domains. These centres provide IP-related services, awareness programmes, and training.

To date, 638 startups have filed a total of 1,672 IPs and patents with support from the scheme. TIDE 2.0 centres have adopted multiple revenue models, including equity exits, to ensure long-term sustainability.
Additionally, more than 150 incubated startups have been supported in expanding their operations globally.
The TIDE 2.0 Scheme complements other Government initiatives such as Startup India, GENESIS, SAMRIDH, and various sector-specific innovation programmes, reflecting a coordinated effort to build a robust startup ecosystem in India.
